يسعى هذا المشروع إلى بناء قاعدة بيانات شاملة لأسماء الأماكن العربية التي تغطى جميع أنحاء العالم ولا تقتصر فقط على أسماء الأماكن في العالم الناطق باللغة العربية لوحده. تم تدقيق كتابة الأسماء للتأكد من الإلتزام باتباع قواعد الإملاء في كتابة الهمزة، الأمر الذي يتم تجاهله في معظم المطبوعات المنشورة. تعطي قاعدة البيانات اسم المكان مكتوباً بنص الكتابة العربية، والاسم مكتوباً باللغة الإنجليزية أو بطريقة كتابة الأصوات العربية بالحروف اللاتينية، وكذلك التنوع في طريقة هجاء الاسم، والأخطاء الشائعة في الهجاء. وتعطي قاعدة البيانات وتيرة تكرار المتغيرات أيضاً.
This project is an attempt to build a comprehensive database of Arabic place names that covers the entire world, not just place names in the Arabic speaking world. The place names are proofread carefully to ensure adherence to the rules of hamza orthography, something often ignored in most publications. The database gives the correct name in Arabic script, its name in English or transliteration, spelling variants, and common errors in spelling. Frequency of variants is also given.
