Description:

This teaching module offers resources and lesson plans for exploring education in the Middle East from medieval to contemporary Middle East. The goal of this module is to develop a deeper understanding of what students were taught in school and to undermine the stereotype of Islamic schools teaching violence and hatred. The module includes primary sources from the Ottoman Empire, Iran, and the Arab world, from medieval diplomas to a news article about education in contemporary Algeria. Finally, teachers can use the documents in conjunction with a provided documents-based question as an assessment. >
