Description:

In this photograph, boys at a Saudi school are seen goofing around for the camera as they begin to eat iftaar (إفطار), the evening meal during Ramadan. Observant Muslims fast from dawn until dusk, and breaking their fast is always a celebration.  The boys eat on the floor on sheets of plastic or newspaper, as is common for large gatherings no table can accommodate. To clean up, they’ll simply remove the dishes and gather up the plastic with all food scraps on it.  They wear the thawb (ثوب) and shmagh (شماغ), as is common in Saudi Arabia.  Relevant topics related to this photograph include: schools, Saudi Arabia, iftar, Ramadan, and foods. >
