Description:

This teaching resources from The New York Times‘ Learning Center uses primary sources not only to explore the events in Armenia and the Ottoman Empire in 1915, but also to examine perspectives and debate surrounding whether or not these events constitute a genocide. Links to a dozen NYT articles from 1915 are used as primary sources, while contemporary articles and sources are linked for discussion on laws against denial of the Armenian genocide, United States policy on the Armenian genocide, and the use of the word “genocide” in Turkey. As reader comments below this post show, this remains a highly controversial topic, not just in Turkey, but around the world. >
