Description:

The Hussein McMahon Correspondence is a collection of letters between Sharif Hussain of Mecca and Sir Henry McMahon, the British High Commissioner at Cairo written between 1915-1916. In this exchange of letters, Hussain and McMahon negotiate the terms of a political and geographical arrangement following the Arab revolt. In these letters, McMahon promises Hussain Arab independence in exchange for their support in the revolt. This document was contradicted by the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement and the 1917 Balfour Declaration. >
