تم تنظيم عرض أين يقع الشرق الأوسط؟ بواسطة مركز كارولينا لدراسة الشرق الأوسط والحضارة الإسلامية. يستخدم العرض الخرائط الجغرافية لإثبات الاختلاف التاريخي، بين الحكومات المختلفة والمنظمات العالمية والعلماء، فيما يتعلق بحدود ومكوّنات ما يعرف بالشرق الأوسط، أو ربما الاختلاف حول التسمية نفسها. غياب الاتفاق حول تسمية "الشرق الأوسط" يشير بجلاء إلى إمكانيات تطور جديدة في تخصصات ظلت تنظم تقليدياً عبر الفروقات الجغرافية والسياسية التي تدار بطريقة عشوائية.

Where Is the Middle East?, a presentation organized by the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations, uses maps to demonstrate the lack of consensus, over time, among governments, international organizations, and scholars, regarding how to define the boundaries, and contents, of the Middle East, or even whether to use that term. The lack of consensus regarding the “Middle East” indicates new possibilities in disciplines traditionally organized by arbitrary geographic and political distinctions.
The presentation centers around maps used by a range of organizations, governments, and scholars, throughout recent history. The maps are accompanied by brief paragraphs explaining the background of each map, and may be viewed via a slide-show presentation, or by clicking on individual slides.
