This brief activity challenges students to identify the multiple meanings of the term “Middle East” and analyze why such variation occurs. At the end of this lesson, students should be able to provide a list of countries in the Middle East and and the characteristics that define it as a region. The allotted time for this lesson is one class period; and access to maps of the Middle East will be needed to complete the activities.
