This week long teaching unit uses the PBS film, Islam: Empire of Faith, to understand Islam and explore the influence of Islam on the daily life and culture of the Islamic world today. Students begin by learning about the history of the Islamic world and the religion in the Middle East. They then work in small groups to research a specific country in the region and consider what life is like there today. The lesson plan includes links to help students learn about their assigned countries as well as graphic organizers and other materials needed to teach this unit. >
