Description:

Trances is a documentary about the Moroccan group Nass El Ghiwane, who combine Western music influences with North African Gnawa music. It combines concert footage, documentary footage, and interviews. The best use of Trances in the classroom may be to show clips to provide examples of North African music, rather than a complete showing of the film. This video is currently available on YouTube, but without subtitles. It can be viewed with subtitles on Hulu (requires subscription) or on the Martin Scorcese’s World Cinema Project boxset from The Criterion Collection. >
