Description:

The objective of this lesson is to enhance students’ knowledge of vocabulary related to politics, elections and debates. Students are also provided the opportunity to use this knowledge in translation, thus building their lexical competence. Through this lesson, students will be able to: use context to guess the meanings of unfamiliar words, grasp the main idea from listening to the introduction to the radio program, determine vocabulary related to elections and listen to a segment of the audio report. Students will also complete a partial transcription of what they hear and will practice speaking about the 2004 Presidential Debate. By the end of this lesson, students will learn a culturally important idiomatic expression, find associated words from the same meaning range, and sharpen their translation skills. Ultimately, students are given the ability to test their knowledge on the vocabulary presented in this lesson.
