Description:

In this photograph, a group of women in Egypt is seen as they relax and work on baking bread in an open-air oven.  The loaves are flat and round-the default bread in the Middle East, which Arabs use to scoop up bites of other dishes.  Bread is an extremely important food in Egypt: the Egyptian word for bread, eish (عيش) is derived from the verb “to live”.  Bread is heavily subsidized by the government to make it more affordable for Egyptians.  Relevant topics related to this photograph include: women, work, clothing, Egypt, and foods. >
