In these three lessons, students consider the way in which the Middle East was divided after WWI. In lesson one, The Middle East after WWI: Middle East for Middle Easterners, students consider the priorities, goals and motivations of political, religious and ethnic groups in the Middle East in a discussion of dividing up the region’s land and resources. In lesson two, students learn about the history of colonialism in the region by looking at primary sources including treaties and agreements. Students investigate why imperial powers were interested in the region. In the final lesson, students use knowledge from the previous lessons to understand present day conflicts in the region. The lesson culminates in the creation of a map that would foster a conflict-free Middle East. These lessons assume that students have knowledge of the ethnicities, religions, and geography of the region. >
